This notice explains how RentTab processes your personal data, in line with EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR).

1. Data controller

2. What data we process

• Account data: name, email, password (hashed), role (landlord / tenant / accountant).
• Property & tenancy data: address, parcel number, rent, deposit, contracts, reports, meter readings, utility settlements.
• Communication: in-app messages, issue reports, attached photos.
• Billing & payment data: data needed for subscription (invoices issued via Billingo); card payments are processed by Barion, and the Provider has no access to card data.
• Meter photos: the photo taken of the meter counter when submitting a reading, together with the digits recognised from it and confirmed by the tenant.
• Technical data: IP address, device and browser data, logs (security, debugging).
• Analytics data (consent only): anonymised usage statistics and behaviour analytics (see section 6).

3. Purposes and legal bases

• Providing the service — legal basis: performance of a contract [Art. 6(1)(b)].
• Invoicing and accounting obligations — legal basis: legal obligation [Art. 6(1)(c)].
• Security, abuse prevention, audit log — legal basis: legitimate interest [Art. 6(1)(f)].
• Automatic meter reading recognition — the photo taken when submitting a reading is sent to Anthropic (Claude API) for automatic image recognition, to read the digits shown on the meter counter. No personal data other than the photo is transmitted. The recognised value is only a suggestion: the tenant always confirms or corrects it before it is recorded as a reading. Legal basis: performance of a contract [Art. 6(1)(b)]. Anthropic does not use the data sent to it to train artificial-intelligence models.
• Improving recognition accuracy — we retain the meter photo and the confirmed digits belonging to it, and use them to measure and improve recognition accuracy. Legal basis: legitimate interest [Art. 6(1)(f)] — improving the reliability of the service. You may object at any time at the email address above; we will then delete your meter photos, and reading submission continues to work regardless.
• Payment fraud prevention (Barion Pixel) — during the payment flow the Barion Pixel (basic version) collects and sends technical data (device and browser data, click and page-usage events) to Barion for fraud prevention — legal basis: legitimate interest [Art. 6(1)(f)] and performance of the payment service [Art. 6(1)(b)].
• Barion Pixel marketing use — for users signed in to the landlord app (app.renttab.hu), Barion may also use the above data for marketing — legal basis: consent [Art. 6(1)(a)], given in the cookie bar and changeable or withdrawable anytime on the Profile page in the app. Withdrawal does not affect fraud-prevention processing. The Barion Pixel does not run on the tenant interface.
• Analytics (Google Analytics, Hotjar) and marketing (Google Ads, Meta Pixel) — legal basis: consent [Art. 6(1)(a)], withdrawable anytime.

5. Retention

Your account and related data are kept while you use the service or until you delete your account. Billing data is retained for 8 years per accounting law. Analytics data follows the configured provider retention period. Meter photos and their confirmed digits are retained for the purpose of improving recognition for no longer than 24 months.

6. Cookies and analytics

Strictly necessary cookies are always used. Analytics and Hotjar cookies are loaded only after your consent. You can change your choice anytime via the “Settings” button at the bottom of the page. See the Cookie Policy.

7. Your rights

• access to your data;
• rectification and erasure (“right to be forgotten”);
• restriction of and objection to processing;
• data portability (export from your profile);
• withdrawal of consent (without affecting prior lawful processing).

8. Remedies

You may lodge a complaint with the Hungarian DPA (NAIH, naih.hu) or seek a judicial remedy.

9. Changes

We update this notice as needed; we’ll notify you of material changes in the app or by email.
